Chest Physical Therapy
Chest Physical Therapy (CPT) is a group with combination therapy used to mobilize pulmonary secretions. This therapy consists of postural drainage, chest percussion, and vibration. Postural drainage is the use of techniques that discard the setting position secretion of certain segments of the lung and bronchus into the trachea.
Chest physiotherapy can be used for the treatment and prevention of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, restrictive respiratory diseases including neuromuscular disorders and restrictive lung disease due to lung parenchyma abnormalities such as fibrosis and patients receiving mechanical ventilation. Chest physiotherapy includes a series: postural drainage, percussion and vibration.
Postural drainage procedure can cover large segments of the lung. Because the client may not need all of postural drainage lung segment. Postural drainage uses a specific position that allows gravity to assist in removing bronchial secretions. If postural drainage is used, Patients alternately placed in a different position, so that gravity helps to drain secretions from the bronchial airway smaller for large bronchi and trachea. Secretion is then removed with a cough. By asking the patient inhales mucolytic agent and a bronchodilator prescribed before postural drainage help drain the bronchial tree.
Nurses must be vigilant about diagnosis of lung lobe also patients sick patient's cardiac status, and any structural abnormalities of the chest wall and spine. If the position cannot be tolerated, the patient is helped to take a position that is modified.
Most healthy people to think a little about their respiratory function. The Department of Health has organized development Efforts overall health and sustainable focus. Nurses can facilitate respiratory function by encouraging the practice of deep breaths and cough to remove secretions. Nurses can also perform self-therapy which includes chest physical therapy.
With CPT, people get in different positions to use gravity to drain the mucus (postural drainage) of five lobes of the lungs. CPT easy to do. It’s part of the lung is then dried using percussion, vibration and gravity. When a person with CF is one of the positions, caregivers may clap on one's chest wall. Clap (percussion) by a caregiver in the upper part of the chest wall lungs to be drained help move mucus into the larger airways. If the hands are cupped right, percussion does not have to be painful or sting.
Caregivers put his hand on the upper part of the chest wall lungs were drained and tense muscles of the arms and shoulders to create a good shaking movement. Vibration is done by hand flat and not cupped hand (see figure below). Flat hand-illustrated
Deep breathing moves to loosen mucus and may cause coughing. Breathing with the diaphragm (breathing abdomen or lower chest breathing) is used to help people take deeper breaths and get air to the lungs lower.
